Backing Up My Computer with a Online Backup Service

Wednesday 16 December 2009 @ 8:56 am

Nothing is more annoying and more frustrating than having your computer crash and losing all of your information. With all the music, movies, pictures and other files I store on my computer I was so frustrated when my computer crashed last month.

Like me, you might have thought you were doing everything you could to protect yourself from crashes. I was careful about what sites I visited, and I always kept my antivirus software up-to-date. However, even with my precautions, I still got a virus that made me lose it all.

I had to restore my computer back to the factory settings and I lost everything! I learned my lesson and went and bought an external hard drive. I put all my information on that thinking that this is a much better choice for storing files. Well I thought it was the safest mode until I found out that these are also prone to viruses.

I really don’t want this to happen again so I have been doing some research on the matter. I have found that there are several companies on the web that offer secure online file storage. That way if my computer ever crashes, I lose my laptop, or I just buy a new computer I can access all my files from their web site and not have to worry about transferring all my files.

Also a great thing about this service is that I can access my files from multiple computers. I don’t have to lug my laptop back and forth from the office every day. That means what’s at home I can get at the office and vice versa. It is really amazing how easy it is.

There is step by step instruction that you can find if you are unsure of your computer skills and think that this might be a task to technical for you. It is a real simple process; they even have an option that will do the backing up for you. And it is all secure as well.

I worried about the security of my files being stored online, but they do everything through encryption, so I know it is just as safe as anything else I send online. These companies are really concerned about safety and security, so if you have concerns, you should look at their individual sites to know what they do to protect the documents stored there.

Because I don’t want my files to be lost if my computer breaks down, I signed up for online backup. If you’re like me and you spend a lot of time on your computer, then it is practically a necessity.
