Practical Article Marketing Tips – Debunking the Myths

Friday 31 July 2009 @ 8:34 am

If you want to make it big in article marketing, you have to be aware of its many myths and misconceptions spreading throughout the web. Below are common article marketing myths that need to be run to ground:

MYTH #1: Article marketing = Much ado about nothing

Because of the links in your author bio section or footer of the article, every article directory you submit to is linking back to you. This creates a lot of one-way inbound links which can help you increase your link popularity and be a source of some of the most targeted traffic you can get. By publishing quality content you can help establish yourself as an expert in your field.

MYTH #2: Reprinted articles only get indexed as supplemental pages and won’t do your business any good.

As long as you write and submit quality articles and get accepted by a large ezine with half a million subscribers, there are bigger chances your articles can get a top 10 listing in major search engines, not just as supplemental pages.

MYTH #3: You can get penalized by search engines for duplicate content because you are submitting your article everywhere.

One of the biggest article marketing secrets seems to be the truth about duplicate content and article marketing. According to Google, “Duplicate content generally refers to substantive blocks of content within or across domains that either completely match other content or are appreciably similar.” Duplicate content is two webpages that are around 70% similar, not two webpages that have similar text on them. It is those malicious duplicate content that WILL suffer a duplicate content penalty.

If you try to market yourself by following these article marketing myths, you’re likely to make some serious mistakes. Article marketing, when done correctly together with search engine optimization, can drive lots of free targeted traffic to your site and eventually generate sales.

SEO Tips: Get Your Pages Ranked Higher with the Right Website Title

Friday 31 July 2009 @ 8:06 am

Many people do not realize just how important the title of their website really is. If you’re surfing the Internet for something specific you’re going to go with the title that catches your eye, therefore if you’re making your own website you want to make sure you have that eye-catching title.

The title is what attracts people to your website and tells them exactly what you have. It needs to also be a good title that will rank high in the search engines, this way your website will pop up more often than others when searched.

Take a look at your title and make sure it works altogether. It should tell your prospective clients exactly what you sell and make it search engine friendly at the same time.

You don’t make your website title just the name of your company because that will not tell people what you can offer them or entice them to clicking on your website.

Let’s say you as a prospective customer are looking for pet food and you come across a website that says, “John’s Place.” That doesn’t say what John might be selling, now, does it? Instead, you’ll click on a website that says exactly what it sells, like the above-mentioned Smith Pet Foods (www.smithpetfoods.com); in that way, you know exactly what is being sold.

Your website title should also use relevant keywords. These are used when someone does a search with a search engine.

So let’s use the example above again. “John’s Place” doesn’t really give you any keywords that are going to help people find widgets. However, “best widgets” is an example of a really good keyword or keyword phrase, and the title and website name “John’s Best Widgets” contains that keyword phrase, so that it will help people find exactly what they’re looking for when they search for “best widgets.”

User keywords at the beginning of your title, which means it’ll be ranked higher in search engine rankings. You may even want the keyword twice.

It can be difficult to do and you don’t want to be repetitive, but you may be able to do it. For example, if your keyword phrase is “pet foods,” you could say, “Smith Pet Foods, selling the best pet foods in the country.” In other words, you make a statement instead of a repetitive nonsensical phrase.

Make sure your title persuades and encourages your prospects to click on the link and go to your site. If your title isn’t persuasive, you’re not going to get much traffic. In addition, try to get everything you need to say in 65 characters or fewer.

Search engines generally have a limit on the length of the title that shows in their search engine results. Google only displays the first 60 to 66 characters so you can see why it is important to get your main point across is little space as possible.

Don’t use secondary keywords in your title. You can use these on your main page, but save your main keywords for your title, which is what’s really important. Again, your website title should be short and to the point. Don’t stuff with repetitive keywords, because you just sound desperate if you do that.
